We’re very excited to tell you about a new venture that we’ve launched to offer an easier, low-risk style of apprenticeship to small and medium-sized businesses.

We love Christmas at The Workshop, and this year we’ve been getting in the festive mood early with one of our new clients, Ponsford.
A local interiors institution, Ponsford is famous for its annual winter sale. In the run-up to the seasonal rush, we’ve been helping them to refresh their communications, including designing an advertising campaign and new interiors magazine, Ponsford Living.
Last week was quite a week here at The Workshop. After the high of winning two Cream awards on Thursday, we picked up award number three on Friday night from DADI in Leeds, Best Public Sector Website for Diploma Support.
Diploma Support was one of The Workshop’s biggest-ever projects: four industry partners (including the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, Pearson and LSN), a multimillion-pound budget and a delivery team of more than 50 people. We won the contract in 2008 from the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) to deliver a comprehensive package of Diploma training events, consultancy, publications and online support to teachers.
Just a note to say thank you to those of you who voted for Mission:Explore in the recent Orange Mobile Volunteering competition. It was one of the top three voted community winners for the topic ‘Apps doing good on the go – built or in development’.
Mission:Explore will now go through to the next judging phase, where 10 apps will be chosen from all categories to receive direct promotion to Orange customers.
You can find out more about Mission:Explore in our launch post.

We’ve been busy bees here at The Workshop over the last few weeks, working on a wide range of projects for clients new and longstanding. We thought we’d give you a quick rundown of what’s been happening and what’s coming up.

It’s been a long journey, but we’re delighted that some of the wonderful work we did for BBC jam back in 2007 has finally reached its rightful destination on the BBC website. We brought exciting educational content to life through design, animation and development for Key Stage 1 Welsh, Key Stage 2 Science and Key Stage 3 French.
The material has now been versioned into Welsh and is being used on the BBC Wales website as part of their learning offer for young Welsh learners. Much of the work we did on these projects involved creating immersive ‘worlds’ from which to launch interactive content. Originally we worked closely with the BBC in the early days of Jam to research and consult on the shape of the service.

We’re developing an online careers coaching tool for learndirect.
It’s designed to give learners an immersive, video-led and supported mentoring experience. Our video presenter takes learners step by step through a series of learning modules which will help them apply for jobs, prepare for interview and improve their employability skills.
Last month we celebrated the launch of Mission:Explore, a website and free iPhone app we’ve developed in collaboration with the Geography Collective.
The launch took place aboard The Golden Hinde, a replica of the historic ship once captained by Sir Francis Drake and now moored on the banks of the Thames. Needless to say, there was plenty of pirate-themed fun and games. Not to mention the costumes.

The Workshop recently designed and built the relaunched ‘Services for business’ section of Sheffield Hallam University’s website.
The site aims to challenge the assumption that a university can only offer training and development. It features news and case studies about the range of technologies, services, facilities and resources that Sheffield Hallam offers.
