The idea behind Mission:Explore is to take geography out of the classroom and into the wider world. Through a series of playful missions, young people are encouraged to explore their environment and share their progress. Missions are designed to get them exercising and problem solving, often without even realising it. Could you cross Trafalgar Square without scaring a pigeon? Think of all the risk assessment and planning!
Young explorers can collect points by completing mini-adventures and doing tasks, earning virtual badges as they go. Social sharing through Facebook and Twitter is built in, which makes it a cinch for users to share their achievements with the world. Free to use and available to all, Mission:Explore combines outdoor learning and a whole heap of fun.
Mission:Explore is a growing site with missions and locations being added all the time. Organisations including National Geographic, Ordnance Survey and OPAL now use the Mission:Explore platform. They’ve all become ‘Challengers’, which means they have their own missions as part of educational, charitable or marketing campaigns. Want to become a Challenger too? Visit the Challenger page on Mission:Explore to find out more.
